I’m home alone and just discovered that Rebecca’s Christmas mix cd has “Last Christmas” by Wham and “All I want for Christmas is you” by Mariah Carey…and I’m listening to them. On repeat. Loudly. Mary, dancing in the kitchen to pop music is my answer to The Ungame question “What do you do when you are alone?”

Finished Gilead by Marilynne Robinson. She created the most beautiful manner of speaking for her narrator; a dying pastor who is writing a love letter of sorts to his young son. His reflections on loss and grace and blessing long hoped for are some of the best and most comforting I’ve come across. I wanted to savor this one, I really did, but it was so delicious I ended up kind of gorging myself. This may be a top shelf contender.

Mary Anne brought a movie with her to Aunt Dorothy’s over Thanksgiving that ended up being a surprise hit. We all thought it was hilarious. The kids watched it 3 or 4 times and learned pieces of the songs. Sons of Provo is a mockumentary about a Mormon boy band. I’m not joking. There is a thriving Mormon film industry (Mormollywood) and this is considered one of their best efforts. Netflix it. You’ll like it.

Colette, I had every intention of putting up pictures of my finished bedroom tonight, but that would require taking pictures of my bedroom and that would require making my bed, putting away clothes, ect. Too much work after such a long day. Soon. I promise.

I think M. Night Shyamalan is a genius. July 24, 2006

Though Lady in the Water will probably be considered a financial failure I thought it was great.  Funny, scary, sad and yet resonating with hope…kinda like life.  If you like quiet films that are all about the details then gorunquick and see it in the theater.
