the usual daily wage…

getting by on costly grace

I spent most of today feeling overwhelmed by decisions, my inability to control  circumstances and worst yet, my seeming inability to control my emotions. It was exhausting and I’m feeling a bit spent. So I’ve been reading a little poetry…here’s one I’m finding comforting tonight.

The Gospel According to Helena

Damn
She loves to sing
She knows she may not even be that good
What does it mean when somebody
Loves to do something
So much
She
Doesn’t care
Whether or not
It makes any sense to the world

What does it mean when somebody
Does something just because
It makes her feel more alive
Opens her eyes

What does it mean when somebody
Does something just because
She’s missing God
And wonders if she always will

She must know that all good songs
Are a form of prayer

Mary came to visit and was quite taken with Frasier. And vice versa, I assure you.

I had thought to stop blogging…other things to do..nothing interesting to say…blah blah blah…but have decided this is a good way to document the progress on the Kimballtin house.  What’s the Kimballtin house you ask?  The home purchased by Nate and Amy and myself.  It’s perfectly charming if you are excited by the promise of a completely gutted house.  Pictures to follow.

In other news: I’ve passed my boards and will be finishing my orientation at the ER by the end of the month, my car is on the fritz on in the shop, and I think tomorrow I will accept help (in the form of antibiotics) in hopes of getting rid of this nasty hack of a cough.

As I mentioned earlier, Mary was in town and met my fella.  Here’s a slick picture she took of Josh at the Emory.

It’s a long story, but I spent some time on cafepress.com this morning and here are a few fun slogans I came across.

Party like it’s Rumspringa

f*ck  c*ncer

Lackawana County- Volunteer Sheriff’’s Deputy

Team Zissou Intern

Okay, now I’ve wasted enough (too much) time on cafepress and you’ve wasted enough (too much) time on my blog…go back to work or read a book or something.

I have wasted an obscene amount of time watching clips from the Office on youtube in the last couple days which may have deleterious effects on my scholastic success these last 5.143 weeks of the semester.

So one of my assignments over the weekend was to create a flier for a community health presentation related to depression/anxiety/sleep management. How do you get college to students to come to a health talk about sleep? You make them think it’s going to be about sex and you promise free condoms.

a word of advice December 4, 2006

I strongly recommend not googling one’s ex-boyfriend’s name.  Even if you are bored and it’s just kind of a casual “what’s he up to?” sort of thing because you will find out he is pursuing the dreams he always talked about and dating/co-habitating with/married to(?) a thinner, prettier version of yourself.  You’ll be sorry.  I’ve learned my lesson.

Some parties, who shall remain unamed, have been vocal of late in requesting more pictures. The hallway is practically done (one more coat on the newly chocolate brown stairs and touch ups here and there). There are a lot of weird angles and every surface is textured so cutting in neatly was really time consuming hence it became a dragged out affair. The picture on the right is my bedroom, which I’m starting this weekend.

Jesus rules and i’m pretty darn good at parallel parking September 22, 2006

I have to praise Jesus for seeing me through another week:  I’m relatively well emotionally and physically; managed to keep internal dialogue internal during a couple frustrating clinical days; helped a woman give birth at Hutzel on Tuesday; and parallel parked like a champ.  Now I’m home and all the stress of pushing through the week is rolling off my shoulders.

I’ve been reading Proverbs in the morning and I’m struck by how often it exhorts us to seek after wisdom (not knowledge), find contentment in present, humble circumstances  and to acknowledge gratefulness to God for His many blessings…

“Incline your ear and hear my words, and apply your mind to my teaching, for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.  So that your trust may be in the Lord, I have made them known to you today – yes, to you.”      Proverbs 22:17-19

Amen.
